Very good app for reasonable price
I have been using Sound Studio since version 3.5. I like it a lot because it is easy to use and is loaded with features. I tried version 4.2 with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and it works well. Editing and processing songs of 10 mins or less is pretty fast and the undo/redo is instantaneous for almost any song length. This makes it easy to compare newly added effects quickly before saving a file. Saving as MP3 is not included but you can download (link is given in the user manual) a free GNU plug-in that works well.
The pitch/tempo filter is good but I think the quality of the tempo effect can be vastly improved.
To give it 5 stars, I would like to see some features that facilitate the restoration of music recorded from vinyl records and cassette tapes. Like removing pops and hiss and so on. Even though it contains reverb, echo, etc. I would like to have the addition of surround 3D simulation effects where you can adjust the location of the speakers and preview the effect before applying to the sound file.
I find this app very useful for someone who wants to modify a song or enhance the quality of a recording. For example, removing parts of a song that you dont like, boosting the bass of a song to a satisfactory level or engineer the sound quality of a list of songs and make a CD that plays nicely on your car audio system.
