updated to 4.6.7 now fade in/out not working, can’t delete audio, app is useless. update: sent email, no reply. what’s up???
GREAT FIX on this updated version! Sound Studio is back to doing everything seamlessly. I am super impressed with how quickly they fixed the nasty bugs that were keeping me from being able to copy, paste and change tempo/key. Thank you for not only a great product but excellent customer service.
Really great and fast sound editor for the price.
I’ve been using this for years, since I had my Power Mac. I mostly use it to finish mix-downs & also to prepare tracks created from samples for some of my Spacemusic projects. I’ve also used it to record live audio & I’ve had very few complaints. I just downloaded this new version today on my new Mac Mini, so I’m sure I’ll have some things to add in the future. Always had good results & customer support has been consistently good.
I followed the instructions to install LAME and run Sound Studio in 32-bit mode, but it’s still not allowing me to save to MP3. I can save MP3s in Fission, but it lacks some of the features that Sound Studio has. In short, this is LAME.
I recently decided to move from Windows to Mac. One of the problems I have had is finding a piece of software to quickly edit audio in the fashion I am familiar with. This does it. I am use to Sony Sound Forge Studio on Windows. For whatever reason, much of the software I am finding on Mac handles some basic things, such as scrubbing, very differently (and IMO, stupidly). This does everything thing I need for my quick, basic editing, simply, quickly, and precisely.
I have been using SoundStudio for close to a decade and this last version is by far the best. I feel blessed that we have software developers that make our lives easier and more effective with every version. I wish it was the case with every developer! Bravo for this new version.
I have been using Sound Studio for years, even before it became a part of the App Store, and have been very satisfied with its ability to convert LPs to digital format. It allowed for single track selection simply by clicking above or below the track, or if both tracks were desired simultaneously, you would click between them. With this latest update to v. 4.7, it now defaults to selecting both tracks, and it is necessary to hold down the Command key to select only one of the stereo tracks. This adds a keystroke to the editing process, since it rarely is desireable to edit both stereo tracks at the same place. I don’t know why this change was made, but if you plan on using it to digitize old LPs. 78s or 45s you may find it somewhat awkward in function. Otherwise it is a very good application, and I will struggle to change my usage habits that had become second nature to me for years before.
I think I have owned every version since V2 that came with my iBook G3. this is one of the most wonderful programs to work in, simple and intuitive. the change in how to do selection does not bother me as I am a keyboard shortcut junkie anyway, just treat it like selecting multiple files sort of in reverse. oddly enough, I was accidentally not selecting entire tracks and it was starting to drive me nuts. its kind of hard to delete something and keep 2 tracks in sync without selecting both of them. it might be useful to have a toggle for this option? now if I could just figure out how to sit down and actually do stuff and get work done?
I am an audiologist and have used this program over many versions and many years. It just keeps getting better. The ability to edit speech down to the .000 level and now to set the BPM makes this program an even more useful tool.
A great product that keeps getting better! Love it!!!!
Sound Studio is an app that gets the job done. Easy enough to use for beginners, yet with plenty of useful features for those who want more power than a simple recorder. It should be noted that this is no high end multitrack application…. even though it can do some rudimentary multitracking. I use it all the time for podcast production and such.
This is definitely an upgrade from the more expensive Toast (with included Spin Doctor). It may not be as colorful as Roxio’s hyped product, but it permits precise and relatively easy editing of wave patterns. The most recent edition is giving me problems with visual patterns that aren’t stable, ranging from “little hills” to dark “blocks" occupying the screen real estate. Moreover, I’ve been having unaccustomed trouble with basic operations like starting and stopping along with volume levels (distorted at one extreme, inaudible at the other). Once it’s been debugged, it’s the most practical sound editor in its price range, especially with the addition of a timer, which makes Toast completely expendable. Bear in mind, however, that the program will not mix 2 or more tracks. When it’s stable, it’s the most useful program when it comes to recording and editing a single sound signal (monaural or stereo).
Maybe I acted too quickly but I bought Sound Studio to create video sales letters and podcasts. Guess what, it dosn’t save as Mp3! Guess what I need my audio files to be, you got it, Mp3. Bad choice for me.
Good: Easy to trim off the beginning and end of sound clips. Also allows one to divide a long recording into tracks an name each. Also helps autotag with LP art if that’s what you are doing. Bad: Doesn’t allow multiple tracks with overlaping (at least I cant easily figure out how and I’m usually good at this sort of thing) - makes me wish Audio Cleaning Lab would make a Mac version. Also, VERY BAD this program inserts itself as the default for playing all media files (easily undone but an unwelcome intrusion). So it does really basic things OK, but without multitrack overlapping, a bit limited for me.
I’ve been using, Sound Studio, for as long as I can remember (ok, at least 12 years). It has been my Go-To app for converting my old, vinyl albums to digital files. Easy Mac interface, and well written help section, via the web. Just used Sound Studio this morning to create a new ring tone from one of my iTunes song files. I’ve tried some other app’s for converting vinyl to digital, but Sound Studio is the best, for me.
Sound Studio will not capture sound from your computer. Want to record an audio snipet of a your favorite guitar lesson for quick review later? You can’t. This seems so obvious to have in a lite audio editor, but it is the reason I use it rarely.
Wow, we spent a whopping $30 for this app, and it is just terrible. Not a good audio editing app at all. For example, every time you press the spacebar to pause the audio that you are listening to, it doesn’t even pause right where you are in the audio file. It JUMPS to some other random part in your audio. That’s right — you read that correctly. When you press the spacebar, this app will JUMP YOU to some other random part of your audio file! Terrible. This app is truly not user-friendly at all, it has almost no preferences to customize the experience, it doesn’t even have the ability to speed up playback or slow down playback while listening to a file. Just a really bad app, all the way around. We do not recommend at all, and we wish that this company would refund our $30.
I’ve been using Sound Studio for 12 years and I love it. It has many useful filters and a great user interface. Great tool for adding EQ to songs, changing volume, etc. Also useful for editing audio for video projects.
